Of everything I make, hand-stamped paper pieces are probably my favorite.
There is something almost magical about the moment when the stamp meets the paper. The sound, the texture, and the way the ink transfers onto handmade paper never stop fascinating me. Sometimes I think it is a luxury that I get to spend my days making something I genuinely love so much.
Handmade paper is equally important to me for another reason. I care deeply about the environment. My siblings used to tease me by saying I cared too much, and perhaps they were right. I have spent much of my professional life working in environmental matters, and those habits have stayed with me. I recycle paper whenever I can, I try to reduce waste, and when I make handmade paper, I do my best to use as little water as possible.
Perhaps I do care a little too much.
But I think beautiful things are worth making thoughtfully.
